Did you know you can etch textures such as feathers, lace, and tin foil into a copper plate and etch it? You can also draw into a plate with a pencil too, to create a tonal drawing. This fall, come down to Spit Bite and learn how to use soft ground- a method of etching where you can etch materials into a copper plate to create some interesting and beautiful textures. Each participant will learn how to coat and etch a copper plate, print the plate, and then use a technique called chine colle to add even more color and texture to their prints. No previous etching experience is required. Course fee is $200 which covers the plates, inks, soft ground, paper, textures (flowers, lace, feathers, etc). Participants are free to bring in their own textures and sketch books for drawing.
This will be a four week course that will meet on Thursday evenings in September-October from 5:30-8:30 pm on 9/10, 9/17, 9/24, and 10/1.
